Local Student Awarded National Scholarship through Foundation for Rural Service

Shallotte, NC – A local Brunswick County student was recently awarded a scholarship through the Foundation for Rural Service (FRS), an organization which supports rural telecom companies and consumers. ATMC is a member of the FRS, and each year the organization awards annual scholarships to qualifying students across rural America. This year, Brunswick County Early College High School senior, Amileon Williams, was selected as a recipient for the Roger Alan Cox Memorial Scholarship.

Amileon Williams, daughter of Natalia Stevenson of Supply, NC was awarded the $1,000 Roger Alan Cox Scholarship. Williams plans to study nursing at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in the fall. In 2017, FRS created the Roger Alan Cox Scholarship sponsored by Herman and Whiteaker, LLC. Roger Cox served Brunswick County in the rural telecommunications industry, spending the last 27 years of his life at ATMC primarily in leadership roles as Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager. This scholarship honors Roger’s passion and endless drive to help ensure that rural Americans have access to the same technology and education as every other American.

“We are honored that Amileon was chosen as a recipient of the Roger Alan Cox Scholarship,” said Keith Holden, ATMC CEO. “She has shown tremendous commitment to her schoolwork and to her community and we wish Amileon much success as she prepares for this next chapter of life.”

FRS offers an annual college scholarship program to help further higher education among rural youth. Pam Becker, Executive Director for FRS commented, “It is a privilege for FRS to have a small role in supporting the continued education of these students through our scholarship program. Every applicant was impressive and demonstrated a deep knowledge of and dedication to their rural communities. We thank all of our donors for making this scholarship program possible year after year.”
