ATMC Extends Discounted Internet Service to Students During Pandemic

Shallotte, NC - In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, ATMC announced last month that it had signed the FCC’s Keep Americans Connected Pledge. As part of the pledge, ATMC began offering its 50 Mbps high-speed internet service at no cost for 60 days to households with students in Brunswick and Columbus County that did not already have a broadband subscription. The offer, which is scheduled to end on April 15th, has so far helped connect more than 500 homes.

Beginning April 16th, ATMC will offer the 50 Mbps high-speed internet service at a reduced monthly price of $29.95, for six months, to households with children grades K-12 or in college who do not already have a broadband subscription. This offer will also be available for customers that are currently receiving the free student internet offer, once their 60day free period expires.

By signing the pledge, ATMC also agreed to waive late fees and not add penalties to past due accounts during this time. Additionally, service will not be terminated as a result of a customer’s inability to pay their bill.

“We have never experienced times like this,” said Jody Heustess, ATMC Vice-President, Marketing & Customer Care. “With schools closed, internet connectivity is critical to uninterrupted learning. We were proud to be able to step up and connect hundreds of students who otherwise would have been left behind during the pandemic. This new discount can help keep them connected into the fall.”

For those needing connectivity outside of the ATMC service area, the company has partnered with both Columbus County Schools and Pender County Schools to create nine free Wi-Fi hotspots which allow students in underserved areas to take part in online learning.

Regular internet prices will apply after the six-month promotional period. To find out if ATMC services are available in your area, call ATMC at 910-754-4311, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 6 pm.
